I agree with most. He’s just having fun and I’m sure he wouldn’t make them do it unless it was safe. I would say the same thing and my kids would laugh and make some animal noises for extra fun.
You just never know. Depending on what kind of animals are out there in the barn, the kids may actually prefer sleeping out there with them rather than with all the people in the house!!!!! ;-)

As a kid there were many times I did sleep in the barn.It was way cooler than in the house!!!

As my father used to say when we had bad manners at the dinner table “If you want to eat like an animal, have your meals out at the barn”.
