Like I said I would bet Melody is very lonely because everyone thinks she is someone or something she is not. Lizzie should have at least said hi to her, who knows what friendships you forgo by not speaking up.
Does it strike anyone else that Melody looks very lonely in the last panel. It is like she was waiting for some clue from Elizabeth but gives up, just as Elizabeth gives up because she can’t see any clues. This is one reason why children go to schools, to learn the social cues as well as math, reading and all about cooties ;-)
Beautiful commentary on how not just kids, but everyone, is likely to be confused and to fail despite the best intentions and desire for friendship on both sides. If you don’t see this happening in your life occasionally even when older, I would be amazed.

When does she become Lizard Breath?

I don’t like Elizabeth for not only this reason, but other reasons later on in her life

Melody is prolly thinking, “Gee I gave Liz a valentine, but she didn’t give me one! Boy that Liz is stuck up!”

Earth to Elizabeth. We do not communicate telepathically. Maybe it could be a reference to The Shining, although that is highly doubtful.

Hear! Hear! It seems too many people come here to gripe about one of the days’ character’s perceived flaws.

From the look on Melody’s face she sure looks like she could use a friend right now, Elizabeth!

I cannot be the first to notice how comics serve as Rorschach tests…

Telepathy only works on a chosen few, Elizabeth.

One of the FBOFW strips ever. Deep stuff.

If FBOFW did a Shining parody, take a wild guess which member of the Patterson family would say the line “Here’s Johnny!!”
