har-dee-har-har, Mike… now just go to bed

And YOU are a nagging, lying little TWERP/

He’s a sassy little twerp, instead. My kids had to stay in bed if they couldn’t go to school due to “illness” regardless of their temperature or other symptoms. Strangely enough, they were up and ready for school very quickly. >:-D

He seems to be feeling awfully good to have the flu. I’m not saying he doesn’t have it, just that the times I recall I sure didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

When I was ill, I got a daybed on the sofa, so I didn’t have to stay in my room alone. There, I could sleep or read or watch TV, and my mom checked on me regularly. Maybe that would help to keep Michael stay in bed as well.

It was around here that Mike started to show he’d inherited his Dad’s Humour. It will serve him well in the future, and he’s very funny

Unless they’re really, really ill, most boys that age will “fight being sick” and resist efforts to “pamper” them.

I had a nagging cough, once…. then I found out what caused it, and got divorced !

But is face is no longer green, like it was when he left for school. Looks like a complete fake job. Can’t believe all the adults fell for it

I was just remembering one time when both of my daughters & I were all sick. (My husband was unwell, too, but as a 3rd shift worker he was asleep.) The 3 of us were curled up on the couch together, reading. We had the TV on Music Choice. It was the first – and last – time we heard the song “#selfie”. It was so bad and we were all so “high” on cold medicine that all we could do was laugh and laugh.

What ungratefulness. How about picking up a “you WALK home from school, open a can of soup, and take care of yourself while I stay at work” cough. That’s the reality for alot of kids with working parents. Five upside the head. There ya go!

You can’t give aspirin to children anymore but I guess you don’t want to say a brand name pain reliever.

Keep it up and you will catch a raw ass too.

my grandfather remembers laudamun. He said it looked like a small piece of soap, they shaved a sliver off and used that. I guess they put it in tea or something.

I think he’s faking courtesy of the green face paint!

In our world, the green face paint seems to be on the same day as the illness. In comic strip land, it could have been days or weeks later. His skin being pink instead of pale green suggests that it was a few days later.

to route66paul: laudanum contains almost all of the opium alkaloids, including morphine and codeine, and its high morphine concentration makes it a potent narcotic. And Mom, never give aspirin to children or teenagers with the flu. Could be fatal; Reyes Syndrome.

A small minority had a severe reaction to it. I have a different problem with it. One tablet gets great results, but the now standard two and I had better get to bed immediately as I will at least be impaired, if not totally asleep soon. While I rarely have headaches, I got a severe one once, with no aspirin available. However, I passed an abandoned gravel pit lined with willow. Chewed four leaves and got quick relief. (Inner bark is even stronger, but I don’t know the equivalent amount for it.

Being sent home from school does not mean he’s sick enough to go to bed. It means he’s contagious and can’t be around other kids.

John, I was going to say the same thing. No aspirin for a child under 16 years. Reyes’ syndrome. His dad should have known that!

The student across the hall from me sophomore year in college took a bunch of aspirin after he came down with a flu bug and was bedridden for 6 months. Had to take his sophomore year over again. He was 19 when he got Reyes. 16 is not the upper limit. Lots of other remedies besides aspirin, so no reason to take a chance until well into adulthood.
