good news is that the glasses aren’t broken (snapped-off ear rest, cracked lens, bandage or tape wrapped around the bridge)

Here in Ontario we say “running shoes” instead of sneakers.

How old is Elizabeth? If she is still about 7 or 8 that is how a child that age would think.

Yet, you left it behind, Liz. You forgot where you put it. Practice on remembering where you put them it. Inside someone else’s shoe? Lesson learned – not the best place.

The running shoe is the odd part of this. Towel and napkin I get but what would possess Liz to put her glasses in someone else’s running shoe? As for Rachel, I would hope she had changed into some other kind of shoes like maybe sandals. It would have been weird for Rachel to walk off the bus wearing only one shoe.

A victory is a victory. Elizabeth may have forgot where she put them, but she protected them.

This reminds me of when I worked in the kitchen of a nursing home. We would find hearing aids, dentures, glasses, etc. wrapped in napkins or tissues and shoved into drinking glasses. So we always had to open any wadded up paper (yuck) to be sure there was nothing stashed in it.

I bet Rachel’s mom was mad at her for losing the shoe, too.

I lose a lot of things by putting them where they won’t get lost. I never seem to remember there is a difference between “where they won’t get lost” and “where I can find them.”

Love that little blue KEDS label on the heel! I own several pairs of KEDS old Champion style. They will run you $45 a pair now a days. Can’t beat Baby Boomer nostalgic love of those items that make us remember happy, carefree days of growing up.

How did Rachel explain the missing shoe to her parents?

After chaperoning many elementary school trips you learn to look everywhere on the bus for anything left behind — I mean everywhere!

    SPOILER the comment"

Oddly enough, this story about Elizabeth being irresponsible with handling her glasses is one that lives on in reference for the next 7 years. Once Elizabeth gets to be a teenager she begins asking Elly for contact lenses and the reason Elly gives for not doing that is that Elizabeth is irresponsible with her glasses, citing this story that we have read this week.

So Rachel left her shoes on the bus. You think she or a parent would have noticed that when she got off. Alternate story line is Rachel put her shoes on, didn’t notice the glasses and broke them. Then who is to blame???
