Oh, Elly, you woke April up. This body wrap is back in style and wrapped more neatly now. I tried it with my granddaughter but she was just too heavy to carry around after maybe 15 minutes. Nah. I rather use a stroller. I think if a mother starts wearing it with a newborn around the house (some do rather than leaving them in a bassinet or crib) and gradually becomes accustomed to it and the gradual weight gain might go unnoticed. Not for a grandmother who only watch grandkids once in a while. Stroller does the job. And I like having my front unobstructed.
I think even today most employers would balk at employees bringing their babies to work. I don’t know how much dentists in Canada make, but I would think she could stay home with her baby for a while yet. Besides, would what she makes at the library even cover childcare?
With computers today, this just might work. The operative word is “might.” Folks who don’t have kids or whose kids are grown and gone have no idea (or have forgotten) how much time a baby takes!
Ah yes. Those halcyon days long past when working from home was a dim possibility, but still not truly practical for any but the most disciplined. Long before internationally sanctioned isolation made ‘work from home’ mandatory. Amazing times.
“Typewriter, phone and mail.” Either Lynn didn’t bother updating the reference for the new printing, or else Elly lives in a relatively undeveloped culture.
I must have missed something a long time ago. Last I heard, Elly’s job was a volunteer position, so no doubt they miss her, but there is no hurry for her to get back to work for the money involved. On the other hand, that would work out ok to take the baby with.
If Senator Tammy Duckworth can take her baby to work so can you. But, Senator Duckworth is also fighting for better maternal leave policies in the USA. I don’t know what they are in Canada.
Ask any of the parents working from home right now how easy it is, especially with a baby. Many are having trouble juggling stay at home school children and working from home. Even if they normally work from home, their children are not normally there all day long and needing help, attention, and direction.
I used to lose track of my coffee cup all the time, once my daughter started crawling. When my wife went on business trips, I was aware that I was heavily outnumbered, with just one baby.

Why would you want to take the baby to work with you anyway? She’s still a newborn.

Taking a newborn baby to a library? What could possibly go wrong?

Some people are simply better at multi-tasking than others. My hat is off to parents. Not a job for the fainthearted.

I’ve never seen people stick out their tongues while laughing. Is that a Canadian thing?
