John has a great idea. Always carry an oil can around with you on a Sunday. It will save you from having to pick up a shovel and do a lot of gardening work. And a bonus, you might not even have to bend down and USE the oil can!

As long as it is squeaking something could break and injure her.

Oil it as is proper, then stick some baseball cards or something similar in the spokes and tell her the trike has a motor now.

A helmet for a tricycle? Seriously?

I’m waiting nervously for the saddest storyline ever.

I remember being about three years old and riding my tricycle down 5th Street in North Vancouver. The wheels squeaked so loudly that one of our neighbours came out and oiled them for me. Funny the things you remember!

At least mom is doing something productive.. Moms today are behind their cell phone screen!

If the kids, or dogs, are quiet it’s time to check on them.

I had a feeling it was going there.

Interestingly, the original (September 12 1993) didn’t have a helmet. That was about when bike helmets were really taking off…and for good reason, I’ve personally known people who would have been greatly injured had they not been wearing a helmet. I’m not sure how much of a threat it is for a trike, since they’re balanced better and kids tend to be around adults when they are on them, but it’s a good habit to install in a young kid.

Maybe they should install squeaky wheels on their teenage son’s car.

This one reminded me of the same: listening for my kids’s noises when they were playing outside, and knowing if they were the regular kind…

It’s amazing ow many comments show up here from well-meaning people who don’t seem to have been actual parents. Parenthood is a balancing act between protection and allowing the child to learn how to enjoy the world, between overseeing everything the child does and being able to accomplish the other things necessary in life. It’s never easy, and you are never sure you are doing it right until maybe after they have grown up.
