I’m always amazed when people complain about the price of veterinary medicine. A doctor only needs to study one species – human. Yet a vet has to take care of a variety of animals. The vet also has to be a surgeon and a dentist. And the vet has to treat animals who cannot communicate with the vet at all; there are translators for human patients. I’m guessing the percentage of veterinarians who have been scratched or bitten is far more than docs for humans. Likewise, being urinated on. You think it’s easy to deal with euthanasia on a regular basis when the owners are devastated? They deserve to be fairly compensated for all they do.

I had an elderly co-worker who couldn’t afford the veterinary bill for his beloved cat, so the vet adopted the cat until it recovered, treated it for free, and then gave him back to a very thankful man.

There is now pet Insurance on the market. With five cats and three dogs it comes in handy, even for just the yearly check ups.
