Back in the 1950s I remember learning about series and parallel circuits in grade school and how the “old fashioned” light bulbs on Christmas trees were series circuits and if one went out, they all went out. but the new kind of light strings were parallel so only that one bulb went out.
Was it just me or did we have “Ancient Alien” technology back then that is lost to modern science?

nowadays the strings are wired so one light burning out won’t take out the string, or at least only disable a short part of the string.

This strip is at least 20 years old. I couldn’t blow the image up enough to see the date.

I see dad is about to light up brilliantly. Icy roof, ladder grounded in slush, may as well change his name to “Filament.”
