The Zero Wing meme, one of the first great viral memes to take the internet. Waaaaaay back before youtube was really a thing.

All your base are belong to us is a popular Internet meme based on a badly translated phrase from the opening cutscene of the video game Zero Wing. The phrase first appeared on the European release of the 1991 Sega Mega Drive port of the 1989 Japanese arcade game.. By the early 2000s, a GIF animation depicting the opening text was widespread on the Something Awful message forums (absolutely a gem of a strip for posterity)

The problem wasn’t that “Mystery” never picked up on Jason. The problem was that Jason was born way too late for a role in Tod Browning’s “Freaks”.

Zero Wing, btw, was a better than average game. Think “Scramble” on steroids. It’s too bad that Williams’ crappy/lazy/whatever localization for the European market have kind of washed that part away.

Now that’s an OG meme. A true classic.
