Four miles in three weeks is about 7,000 feet per week, or 1,000 feet (about 300 meters) per day. At that rate, it will take him about 140 days to complete a marathon.

OTOH 4+ miles daily can, and often does, leave you limping and in pain for the rest of your life once you are older. Although some do avoid that fate.

I just run to the next town every other day and back but I have 4 or 5 dogs with me each time, who seem to think they need to stay with the slow human; the neighbors think it is funny me running their dogs (I don’t own a dog, I have a cat).

I like going for walks now. My jogging/running days are in the past.

At that rate it would only take him about 21 weeks to run a 26-mile marathon.

When I was training for a half marathon it was such a great satisfaction to keep breaking my personal records for longest runs. I remember the first time I ran five miles, six, seven, eight, ten (the day I was first trying for nine I decided I’d just keep going) and twelve.

Now three is back to being a reach goal, and I’m so much slower that I wouldn’t have time to do much farther even if I otherwise could.

He’s eating Mr. Chips, is she drinking Mr. Coffee, or perhaps the ill-fated sequel Mrs. Tea?
