Prior to and during World War II, the Japanese looked down upon other Asian “races” as inferior.
It was not only the Nazis that embraced Anti-Semitism in Europe. They found many willing accomplices in conquered territories who were willing to help them with the extermination of the Jews.
But I wonder if in America, we have elevated racism to an art form. In other societies, slavery was based mostly on the bad fortune of having had been conquered. In America, it was based on skin color.
I think that even the slave holders with the blackest of hearts, had twinges of conscience about enslaving other people. Therefore, to them, black people are not other people.
Although slavery is dead in America, the foundations upon which it was built still linger on. Some myths die hard.
Given the greedy drive of so many, many people, one possible way to reduce—with an eye toward eliminating—all sorts of prejudice is to point out that prejudice is UNECONOMICAL, i.e., ignoring and wasting the brainpower of anyone because of race, religion, color, etc., is effectively to say “no” to economic progress and the probable acquisition of and increase of personal wealth. Of course, that’s not THE RIGHT REASON to stop being a pigheaded racist, but it’s a start that WOULD EVENTUALLY result in a broad appreciation for the brainpower of all those one disdained because of their race, religion, color, etc., e.g., all aspects of society. If pigheaded racists reject common sense the way two-year-olds reject the rules of socialization in favor of the me-me-me arrogance of self, then an economic carrot might be an effective tool. Along the way, NO ONE should tolerate pigheaded racism; we must lead & prod racists, but NEVER let pigheaded racists have their way. As for terms, we should ALWAYS refer to PIGHEADED RACISTS. The words should be joined at the hip.
I wonder if there is a connection between our problems dealing with our own bigotry in the U.S., and our obsession with our independence and “personal rights.”
People are people, all around the world and throughout history. They’re good and they’re bad; they’re big and they’re small, they’re dark and they’re light, but they’re really not very different from one another.
I believe, as scientists are telling us, there is only one Human Race. If there were more than one human race, examples might be Modern Humans, Neanderthals, Denisovans, and others. However, that there is only one Human Race does not deny the existence of racism. Racism exists and we must continue to fight it.
It’s a leftover from European, white empires of the 1600s and beyond. White folks thought they were special because they could kill and subjugate whoever they wanted to.

There is a growing number of us that see others as fellow travelers. (Spiritually speaking.)

People are people in a wide variety of shades
We have a wide variety of attitudes too
I have no problem with other peoples skin tone, I do sometimes have trouble with attitudes
I really have a problem with people who have bad attitudes about skin color

My personal shortcoming is that I love to hate people who love to hate.

A bit of Trivia: Rochester, Minnesota used to have a “Human Race.” It was a half-marathon.
