Euclid: Things equal to the same thing are equal to each other! Frank: That's "Euclid". Some of us call him "Mister Obvious".
I think that’s a stretch………
Or simplistic to the extreme………
the rest call him Mr. Oblivious
SOMEbody had to be the first to propose it.
As I recall, he included this as one of his “common ideas”, which he would use in his proofs but without the need to prove them. Even more fundamental than an axiom.
And yet there a loads of people who don’t understand that or who will deny it if it counters their own argument
Orwell ruined Euclid’s assumption by noting that some things are more equal than others.
Wrong.
Assume the following:
All G = E, and
All F = E. However,
“G” does not necessarily equal “F.”
Consider:
All Germans are Europeans, and
All Frenchmen are Europeans. However,
Germans are NOT Frenchmen.
Here’s looking at Eu,clid.
All things being equal. arithmetic would be a lot simpler.
Wow! I learned something I already knew today…
Coffee is a drink, beer is a drink, therefore coffee is beer.
