Actually, Spock is alive. The character who played him, sadly, is gone, but is it really abusive speaking of a character? When I say something about “Matt Dillon,” am I really saying anything about James Arness?
Again, as @dukedog said: This strip was submitted some time between one and two months ago. How was Thaves supposed to know that Mr. Nimoy was going to die in the interim? And do you really think the joke is so offensive that the syndicate should have disrupted the workflow of hundreds of newspapers because it coincided with Nimoy’s death? I don’t. In fact, from what I have learned from Mr. Nimoy I’m quite sure he would have enjoyed and celebrated the joke. Let’s reserve our indignation for things that deserve it.
Given what I have read about Nimoy, I think he would actually approve of this humorous twist. Initially it might appear to some as in poor taste, and maybe the timing is wrong, but I think it is just fine..RIP Leonard Nimoy…

There would have been Klingons too but they went down the drain when Spork took a shower…

Maybe I’m just old fashioned, but I think that kind of lame joke is in poor taste so soon after Leonard Nimoy’s death.

“I am not Spock”, “I am Spock”; he would probably have written a poem “I am not Spork”.

If not for Nimoy’s recent death, this would have been a good time to discuss the pro’s and con’s of the Oxford Comma.

There is nothing offensive about this comic. There is no insult to anyone or anything. It is merely a play on words between Spock and Spork.

Not the best pun, but not offensive. I think Nimoy would have groaned with a smile.
