As a kid, and being left handed, I learned commercial boomerangs are right handed only, so I made my own. I made a heavily padded mitt for catching it, rode my bike to a park and practiced throwing it. (The town cops dropped by to find out what I was up to, small town, nothing more exciting than a kid throwing a curved stick.) I kept trying until on one throw the boomerang began to climb into the sky whirling, then began its trip back. I was overjoyed, and then immediately terrified because the wooden missile was picking up speed and targeting me. I dived to the left and my boomerang buried itself, partially, in the dirt where I’d stood. I retired my boomerang that day.

Devised to prevent having to find new sticks after every throw and to save hunting the lost ones.

They’d better be careful… that game is going to boomerang back on them.
