Mrs. Olsen: When I was young, we had to look at clotheslines to sneak a peek at other people's unmentionables! Caulfield: Wow! How old are you, Mrs. Olsen? Mrs. Olsen: Ahem! Caulfield: I want to know when I get to start having thoughts out loud without my brain interfering. Mrs. Olsen: How old are you now?

I sure wouldn’t want to think about Mrs Olsen sneaking around, peeking at my unmentionables.

You young whippersnappers just think us old coots are mistakenly thinking out loud. We have every intention of you hearing every word.

It wasn’t all that long ago that all laundry was hung out-of-doors to dry. No one thought anything about hanging the “undies” out for all to see, although sometimes folks would hang the sheets and towels on the outer lines and the undergarments on the inner ones where they were less likely to be seen. Recently I saw an internet article about how some people were outraged that eco-conscious folks were hanging their “unmentionables” outside to dry “right in front of my kids!!”. ROFLMAO.

Good one, Mrs. Olsen!!!

In this weather, you can go directly from hanging out the clothes to starting at the first bringing them back in. Towels are about the only exceptions, but start with them, skip them on the take-down and when you finish that, they will be dry too.

Mrs. Olson just zinged you kiddo!
Nothing beats the smell of fresh bedding that was hung out in the fresh air!

There’s no doubt Mrs. Olsen got the last word here, as all of Caulfield’s comments are out-loud and unfiltered! And I’m with her on the main point….Here in my urban neighborhood, the young dudes have been walking around with pants so baggy they have to grip them in front to keep them on, which makes it look as if they’re holding certain body parts in place, while displaying as much as possible of their boxers-or-briefs in back. (My fellow boomers will recognize the “boxers or briefs” reference.) And the girls, including the ones that inhabit my house, seem to think bra straps are a fashion accessory! Experience tells me that the comments we make may not change what they do right now, but the values do sink in, and the bare-all phase will pass. In my youth, we female show-offs didn’t have the strap problem because we just didn’t wear bras. Thank goodness we outgrew that one!

I think Mrs. Olson is commenting on the popular ‘pants so low my underwear shows’ mode of dressing since she’s behind a couple of teenagers. Can’t really tell from the drawing, though.

I thought she was talking about the girls bra straps showing. You see that all the time, too. Very tacky no matter what color the straps and shirt are.

@vlynnskay – I agree, I thought she was talking about the young girl in front of her. BTW, why is Caulfield hanging around his school teacher? Isn’t it summer there?

I’d think people would be glad young women are wearing bras, so what if their straps show. In my day we didn’t bother wearing them.Am I the only one here with allergies? We used to hang our laundry out, and I’m all for saving electricity. But there’s no way I’m hanging my clothing, and especially bedding, out in the pollen. I do hang some of the more delicate clothes or those I don’t want to shrink indoors on clothes lines in the laundry room. Ha, now that looks tacky.

I’m assuming that she’s referring to the bra straps, which are clearly visible. I still get uncomfortable if I see that mine are showing.
