Caulfield: Coffee beans grow in equatorial mountains, not in France. And your "French" blend was packaged in Seattle. By a company that was rewarded with godzillion-dollar profits. That's all I'm saying. Frazz: Oh, I don't think that's nearly all you're going to say. Caulfield: I make up one source and my report gets marked down 30 points!

And PACs make up ALL their sources and get megamillion donations and the hope of political power.

I don’t get it!? Which source did he make up? All three facts seem to be correct (therefore sourceable). OK, Godzillion isn’t correct – but meaning “really, really, a lot” is correct.

Marked down 30 points for one fake source? Dan Rather wishes he’d been so lucky.

Get my cup at Java Joe’s in Albuquerque, best in town, Mike roasts his own, on site, sometimes daily. The best anywhere!

“Rewarded” should be “earned”; no one forces coffee-drinkers to frequent Starbucks or SBC.

Montana’s Morning Light’s Cowboy Blend is great. I grind the beans just before putting them in the coffee maker. Mmmm good!

@Ashburn: Stop misrepresenting! Coffee at Starbucks is TWO bucks—froufrou dessert in a cup drinks are four.
I’m just guessing Tim Horton nudges right up near two bucks a cup for coffee as well.

When I want a cup of coffee…like now! I don’t care which side of the hill it grew in whatever country…don’t try to talk me into liking it…I’ll know. Gimme…

Tea can be and was grown in places like South Carolina. I am not sure why that was given up. Coffee needs tropical conditions. Both plants require hand picking (of tea leaves and coffee berries) and therefore harvesting is extremely labor intensive. In order for first worlders to have cheap tea and coffee, the people doing the picking have to be paid miniscule wages. Since such miniscule wages would supposedly be illegal in places like the USA, I imagine part of the reason why there isn’t a big tea growing industry could be in part because of labor costs. Colonialism after all was built on the backs of slaves and cheap labor, and thats when the tea and coffee habits of Europe and its European dominated colonies originated.

Saw a T-shirt I liked (but not enough to buy one): “Coffee. Black. Don’t put anything fancy in it.”

“French” describes the roast depth, not the country of origin.
