Excellent joke in this strip within a strip. Meta-funny!

Kids wisecracking like Ph.D.’s. Fun and useful as avatars for the cartoonists, but very rare.

I can attest that banana peels can be slippery in real life too.

Prisoners in b/w stripes, burglars with eye masks tied on with string…a bunch of balloons that can lift a 50 pound kid…Female animals with a pink bow on their heads, cavemen in one-shoulder tunics with jagged hems.
Oh yeah… and doctors in white coats, wearing that round thing on their foreheads.Luckily, the brown Africans with bones in their hair have mostly faded away.

Coincidentally, my daily GoComics email had today’s Non Sequitur immediately above today’s Frazz. Non Sequitur has a Dude With Sign Saying the End is Near. http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur

Falling safes and/ or pianos have gone away but the snowman theme is quickly approaching. When is the last time you actually saw a snowman with a carrot, coal, and a top hat? Also, rotary phones…?

They are selling rotary phones in gift shops in New England! Which, I admit, cracks me up.
Also, our principle in middle school talked to kids ALL the time, and he was super dour and not at all fun. So that’s real. I’ve seen super serious male teachers as well as goofball ones, takes all types.
And as people above already got to, banana peels really are slippery and female animals with pink bows on their heads are sadly pretty prolific.
As to the snowman, carrot and coal is super common still (and even in cartoons I mostly only see that and not top hats, think Calvin and Hobbes for a moment.) But people also do creative things (to be fair, again, so did Calvin and Hobbes!), and that is cool as well.
One more – I WAS the torpid unenthusiastic kid in most gym classes, and I had companions. I can remember the few exceptions – a balancing game where we pulled each other off blocks, gymnastics before health and safety outlawed it, and floor hockey.

Add spherical black bombs. I understand they used to exist, but try finding them today.

School janitors who spend all day hanging out with the kids and sitting down at tables to chat with them, and don’t get subjected to a restraining order.

Word balloons are fine. Thought balloons on the other hand might not be such a good idea. I think there is a good reason why we can’t read minds, we would be surprised at what others thought.

@bigpuma Thanks for the meta definition. I was kinda wondering myself. They talk of meta-humans in superhero stuff like The Flash, but I think that is something different.
