Caulfield: When did we start calling Thanksgiving "Turkey Day"? We don't call Christmas,"Candy Cane Day"; We don't call the 4th of July "Grilled Stuff Day"; We don't call passover...Well, maybe people do call pass over "Boring Bread Day." Frazz: I think it would be "Boring Bread WEEK".

There is nothing boring about matzos! Matzoh Brie, matzoh balls, matzoh pletzel, and on and on. Beats Lent all to hell!

Do people call it “turkey day”? I mean, as an actual name? I’ve only ever heard it referred to that way in a joking manner.

Let’s answer the question, eh? We call it Turkey Day because we have a sense of humor….And a self depreciating sense of humor at that. That’s a great thing to be thankful for……..

I have heard Thanksgiving referred to as “Turkey Day” both as a joke and seriously. Honestly, it grieves me considering that both Presidents Washington and Lincoln declared a day of Thanksgiving for the blessings God has given this nation. For Washington it was a one-time only declaration, but Lincoln established the National holiday. When both declarations were made, roast turkey was not a common food item.

I ate bread in America. There’s nothing but “boring bread day” all year long.
In Germany you can eat different types of bread with different tastes and textures on every day for a year and more.
