Ba da BOOM. Most recent of my grandkids to graduate from college had no interest AT ALL in football. Or any other sport, so far as I could tell. Good kid…
The highest paid government employee in Tennessee is the football coach for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. According to ESPN, coaches are the highest paid employees in forty states.
For all the complaints about sports focus, more than one college president (non-power 5) talks about the big jump in donations when playing a bowl game or making the post season basketball tourney.
A coworker stated that he’d never send his son to a certain college because they have a terrible football team. I asked if his son played football…nope. I asked how was the school in his son’s desired area of academics. He didn’t know. I finally asked if he knew that he was a friggin’ idiot.
My Alma Mater held the first-ever “Metric Football” game in the U.S., and as we routinely lost to our cross-town rivals we chanted, “We’ve Got Higher Board Scores!”
