I said she would think he was sick. She should have sent him to the nurse’s office.

She suspects that it is not really Caulfield’s work.

I used to get in trouble for not showing my work, when there was no work — I knew 35 × 5 = 175 (for instance) without having to do long multiplication to get there.

Could it be that Caulfield is growing up?

    Naw! I’m such a kidder.

Sorry, but I simply don’t get it … perfect score, no commentary and you go the principal defending yourself by citing an accident ? I’m confused …

Mrs. Olsen sees cause for concern about Caulfield, as he is off his stride on this one. So she sends him to Mr. Spaetzle to be sure there is nothing bothering him. Purely out of concern, nothing else.

Don’t remember seeing a school nurse but I might have missed that one.

Now, this is interesting. Caulfield is usually presented as being a sort of easily-distracted pest, but “perfect score, as usual” hints at something quite different.

What does the “313” on Frazz’s shirt mean? Is someone’s birthday coming up?

I can see why Mrs. Olsen would do that. Drastic changes in behavior could be an indicator of a problem.

    Familiar place, different reason.
