Our dogs loved carrots. After the last one left for the Bridge, it was hard to drop the habit of buying more carrots than we needed for just the people. I also had a cat years back who adored lettuce. He would beg for some every time I made a salad. That time too I had a hard time making a salad without tearing up because he was no longer there to pat my leg asking for some.
Never wave a carrot in front of a horse. My favorite sorrel, Misty, could tell if the barn coat I wore had a carrot in a pocket and the pocket it was in from across the paddock.Oh, and every dog who has shared my life, except for Tiny Heinie, has been a fool for carrots.
Years ago I grew a carrot that looked much like Kate’s assemblage except it had more “appendages”. We froze it and would bring it out to display for friends to much hilarity.
Today’s comic reminded me of raising my child. She grew up with three cats and two dogs. I gave up trying to teach her not to play with her food, thanks to the modeling from the kitties. Instead, I taught her “home” manners and “public manners.” In public we do not shoot milk out our noses, for example (no, I never did that, but somehow she learned it).
Every cat I have ever had the pleasure of cohabiting with would roll Martin the carrot peeling like it was catnip. Two of them, Micki (March 1980-September 29, 2000) and Cuda (April 4, 2004-October 14, 2018) would also eat carrot pieces when I would cut them up small enough.

In college, we raised playing with food to an art form.

Well, it’s probably better in the Dog than on the floor.

You don’t eat your toys so don’t play with your food.

Go ahead and play with your food. It builds your creativity and entertains us.

Our dog, Iko, always sits near me when we eat. She knows I will usually sneak her something yummy.

Well, that’s one way to take care of those evil veggies. Stella would seldom get my carrots, but I might be persuaded to share.
