Teacher and parents have to be careful what they say because you can either build or destroy someone. I still remember fondly when teacher told me I had beautiful handwriting. I was 10-year-old.
Today, a remark like the one from Coach Jarrett made would surely trigger someone, and the coach would have to resign, but 1st he’d be brought up before the sanctimonious school board and told how insensitive he is.
I had a coach like that in HS. he’d berate you 1/3 through a tournament if you made a mistake-“well you’re useless” then as it got tight at the end ’come on you can do it" not realizing that even at 16 we could recognize his hypocrisy. he never caught on that we had no respect for him.
I got used to some teachers showing their disdain. I later realized they talked down to kids because they were essentially weak and pathetic themselves. The good ones tried to bolster us, not their own egos.

Most 5 year olds I’ve known have been stronger and more agile than most adults.

A coach’s job isn’t to motivate, but to humiliate. At least that’s the way it worked at my schools.
