    When producer Fred Rose took the great Hank Williams to task for enunciating the title of one of his many classic singles as “Winder Shopping” instead of “Window Shopping”, Williams immediately shot back, “As long as it sells a million, I don’t worry about the pronunciation”.

    Rising rapidly in frequency of posts, alongside oft-ridiculed “Mary Worth”, “Gil Thorpe” and “Blondie”, GA is now almost a daily occurence. Today’s post: “Have you ever wondered where, exactly, the syndicated newspaper comic strip Gasoline Alley takes place? Well, today’s strip doesn’t answer the question, exactly, but it does eliminate a lot of possibilities, mostly the area where people use dialect terms that can be spun into “fun facts.” Also it’s someplace where animals can talk, I guess.”

    In the 1980’s I decided I would do everything I could to have a neutral kind of accent. So I chose how it is given on the nightly news. I had already found Mr. Spock’s way of speaking so precise to be the best in the late 1960’s.
