Rod Whigham may need the blame for this: Gil and Emmett standing on the side of field talking, Emmett’s back turn away from the action on the field. (As stevecox2114 correctly asked, “During a play? WTH?”) Emmett on left, Gil on right relative to the field. Gil sees player running toward Emmett who is oblivious. Gil shouts and gives Emmett a push to avoid the collision… only now Gil is on the left, Emmett on the right relative to the field.

And don’t argue a change in perspective until that elbow in the third panel is a second player running at them from the bleachers.

That’s what you want in your assistant coaches: absolutely paying no attention at all to what’s happening on the field.

I don’t think Gil’s doing Tays any favors. Based on their positioning in P2, Gil is pushing him straight into the charging players. But, in reality, I guess this is just like in the movies. Gil pushes the other player out of danger but then gets hit himself. Is this the end for Gil? Will he need the Medivac helicopter? Will he be in a coma? Will he and Meemaw both head towards the light together? These questions and more will be answered on the next episode of, Soap. I mean, Mopped Up Thorp.
