My 8th grade math teacher gave me the biggest headache trying to figure “compound interests”. I get that same headache when I look at my bank statements now. LOL
No one comments on the A&W thing? Back a long time ago, McD’s had the quarter pounder. A&W tried to make a bigger burger, the third-pounder, however it failed terribly because of American’s poor grasp on fractions. They thought 1/3rd of a pound was smaller than 1/4th of a pound (4 is bigger than 3), and thought that A&W was giving them less meat and thus it failed.
Which leads to ridiculous things like A&W introducing the 3/9ths pound burger.

I have half a mind to teach myself a good lesson, and two quarters to goof around.

Is “I’d better take a quarter hour break” an actual idiom anywhere? I don’t think I have ever heard it uttered.

You only get fifteen minutes. Live with it.

Using your knowledge learned is like using your car/home/health/life insurance. You never know when; but it only works if you already have it.
You don’t even need to enjoy getting it; but it can really suck to not have it.

I just wish some of my math teachers had emphasized how much we would have to use fractions in our lives.

But you’ll only need a fraction of the time.

Lets say he should want to learn to grade lumber, then he’d really need to know fractions.
