[off topic?] For some reason this reminds me of a story about American writer Nathaniel West.

He was part of the second wave of American writers to go to Paris after Hemingway and Gertrude Stein got famous. All the other wannabes were trying to outdo each other with outrageous antics. West put on the persona of a tight lipped Calvinist who was utterly shocked and disgusted by the spectacle.
