Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for August 18, 2013
Transcript:
Mom: "What's this?" Luann: "Rosa offered her house for a "We're seniors now!" Pool party. My job is to contact everyone" Mom: "It's that complicated?" Luann: "Well, Bernice rarely checks her email. But she tests and calls. Gunther doesn't facebook or tweet, but her emails. Tiffany tweets and facebooks but doesn't email, and Crystal doesn't do any of it until after midnight. Knute lost his phone, and Delta's taking a tech vacation" Mom: "Wow. So what's the plan?" Luann: "Not sure. Hey- is there still a postal service?"

its just like when i was driving a bunch of teenagers in my car and i pulled out a map. It was as if i dug a T-rex skull from under the earth at an archaeological dig site…

This really is significant for me……I generally only get to read these comics once a day, late at night. Then, by the time I get back to Luanniverse the next day, there’s 285,000 comments and I just don’t have time to read them and see who responded. So, thanks again.

It’s almost impossible to enjoy these Gocomics cartoon page anymore As soon as I access the site all the ads start blipping and flashing and sparkling etc. etc. etc. and I lose track of what’s being said. Anyone else have this problem with the site? It never used to do this. May have to quit viewing this page.

To me, it helped that Leon Russell and the associated talent with him backed him up… the sincere, bluesy efforts were his best, to me… the later ballads was nice (someone sang “You Are So Beautiful” at my wedding) but the bite was gone when the bluesy arrangements took a back seat to the ballad direction he seemed to go in… just finished listening to Joe’s version of “Letter”… he “put life into that song!”…..
JayBluE over 11 years ago
Also like Joe’s version of “High Time We Went”……

Yeah, that Post Office gag at the end sort of sums it up quite well, as far as our changing outlook…=And another aspect is the lack of handwriting skills since people type so much, now… and the ways that we process and see words, and the fluid nature of the spoken/written language along with proper understanding of grammar and the ability to compose clear, well articulated thoughts, similar to the example shown below:=Like when people type like this with run-on sentence’s and when they go to change to a new thought they don’t use any punctuation at all but they ramble on without thinking about how it looks to rack up a whole bunch of words and ends up looking like a long paragraph and they expect that everyone will be able to read it and spell things with apostrophes like I did above where it shouldn’t be, etc. (this was for example only)…

How soon is the party supposed to be? And if you know all your friends’ communication quirks, Luann, couldn’t you tailor an individual message, via the appropriate medium, to each? That would probably be smarter and much faster than relying on snail mail. —But I’ll leave it to you to work out….

I work for USPS (The “Postal Service”) as LuAnn calls it. First of all thank you for the plugging that we are still around. It is nice to be talked about in a light that isn’t instantly negative.

First, you know there’s a postal service cuz you almost got arrested for tampering a few months ago.
Second, you had a party for Quill just last week and everybody showed up.
Third, I have no third. Psyche!

Why would Tiff be invited to a pool party?? With the sole exception to Crystal, she is not really friends with Luann’s crew.

Anyone doubt Luanne is a Senior now?
@overtherainbowIf you do not like the ads that run under Flash, just uninstall Flash player. Simple to do. But, be aware that many are moving to HTML 5 and you won’t be able to avoid them with any browser.
@IamJayBlueSadly, many schools no longer teach cursive writing and studies have shown that most college students print when not using tech.
Dconskjk over 11 years ago
Yes, there is a postal service, but I mostly get bills and junk mail from them. So most of the time, I’m rarely interested in what comes in the post

“the nonsensical aspect of the USPS operation is the oft repeated line about it “losing money” , as if it should be operated like any business. Balderdash! The Postal Service is just that, a service that our government supplies for the benefit of the people. Subsidizing it with tax dollars, even if it is not optimal, is as necessary as building roads. It was a big mistake to ever try to privatize it.”>And the Republicans conveniently forget it is in the Constitution. The original Constitution, not the add ons where the gun rights are.

The Beatles, The Marvelettes or The Carpenters: “Please, Mr. Postman^And good call with “Postman”, “Operator”, etc…… a crazy thing, too, DW brought up “Postman”, along with “Return To Sender”, and “Telephone Line”…. and on top of that, the post….made sense!….
JayBluE over 11 years ago
Marvelettes did “Beechwood.” (written by Smokey and Marvin). as well as “Mr. Postman”… =The Carpenters did a cover of it on the “Made In America” album…. they stuck with the original arrangement, though with probably a handful of synths to give it a different feel….

In the City by Joe Walsh…^It’s actually an Eagles song, though Joe does sing lead on it…. it was from “The Long Run” album…

Do we know, for a certainty, that when the partiers arrive at Rosa’s house, if they’ll be swimming or playing billiards? ^Now that sounds like a good question, since there was no “direct” context to say one way or the other…. I remember a “Josie and the Pussycats” comic where this was a gag, as Josie and Melody mistook Alexandra’s invitation for a pool party for actual swimming, and they were instead racking up on the felt…. Josie and Mel were in their “pool attire” while everyone else was more… covered up and ready to go elsewhere, in case they had decided to….=If I were to give a guess, though, I’d go with swimming pool on this one, for the last days of summer….

I get my snail mail just fine!…. Bills never get lost!… (although, come to think about it, I haven’t seen my million dollar check… nor my publisher’s clearing house winner’s letter… thought the bill did come on time…

But honestly, there’s a boon and a bane to everything…. in the case of a storm or power goes out from some other reason, though we might have backups and data storage, those things are useless if we can’t plug in, and computers can lose information and there can be security threats to Electronic communications…=Snail mail can accumulate paper (and for those who accumulate everything, can be a potential fire hazard), but it doesn’t require electricity to keep or compose… =The whole key as to everything is balance… how to not overwhelm yourself with things just to ‘keep up appearances", and to keep from “information overload” and “E-fatigue”…. =Actually, some developers have put out apps that’s supposed to cover all of the different media from Pinterest to Instagram, from Facebook to MySpace, GMail to Yahoo…..

It really is a case by case basis for those who are “goth” to have friends who are not… there are those who are the “Tiffany” type who are “privileged” in family ties, only… they hang out with different types… =Those who are the “snobs” or who are more the “social butterfly” type will look down on others, but mostly out of ignorance or whatever social environment prevails… but it all depends on the situation… some are rich kids who look to “rebel”, and there are some who are both “rich” and “goth”…
JayBluE over 11 years ago
And not all kids who wear “Crystal” type fashion are Goth… =There are different degrees to everything… there’s “Emo”, there’s “industrial”, there’s “Death Metal”, there’s “Alt Rock (the Cure)”…. not all “Goth” kids are the same degree… and it’s not necessarily a “one size fits all” matter, either…=Crystal does not even wear “all black all the time”, an almost prerequisite for being “Goth”… some are a mix of different styles, taking from one area or another.. and they would more so classify themselves as being “individualistic” in their fashion… and that’s another aspect: some look upon themselves as just “fashion rebels”, some are more about music, some are really into “gloom and doom”, and some are not… again, it’s not a “one size fits all” thing with ‘Goth’…. having said all of this, my point is that just because someone seems to be the “Crystal” type, doesn’t mean that they automatically have confined interests, nor confined relationships… that includes people who seem more “preppy” or “rich”….
JayBluE over 11 years ago
The funny thing is that “old fashioned” way of using the telephone… the people most likely to stay in touch on a regular basis can be the ones to relay to those people, for instance: get one person to call “x,y,z”, then get another to call “a,b,c”… the perceived drawback would be in having to leaving a message with them, and wait, but who’s to say that they would respond right away with any of the other methods, either?….
