So far so good. Bernice is a natural. Being BFF with her sweet loony toon friend Luann has probably been good practice.

The underwear thing is why I’ve never understood how “all your dreams will come true” is supposed to be a good thing.

Bernice dreams about a middle-schooler she’s never even met coming to school in her underwear? I guess they must be soul mates or something.

My late post from yesterday might answer a question several of you were asking:

@howtheduck
Usually the age difference between seniors and freshman is 3 years, however, since the size difference between girls 14 and 17 is usually not that much, I am going to guess that 4 years may be too low a number.^^When Luann was 13 in the early strips, it was said several times that Pitts was a jr/sr HS… in other words, the frosh kids are actually 12 year old 7th Graders, this is why Luann and Brad could be going to the same school when Lou was 13 and Brad 17

For many years, Maidenform bras ran a print media ad campaign around the theme of “I dreamed I [insert almost any adventuresome action-context here] in my Maidenform bra.” Although considered a tad spicy in the ’50s and ’60s, those ads featured what would be considered today to be very conservative undergarments….

all this work Bernice is doing this week is making me think greg is introducing us to the core cast of a new strip he’s planning after the luann core cast graduates…

It’s better to be seen in clean “wild & exciting” underwear than soiled, dirty “conservative” underwear. Also, I wonder if Bernice ever has dreams that she is working in the library in a state of total nudity!

No underwear/naked dream.
It means you are (insufferably) secure in yourself.

Conservative?!?! With TV the way it is today influencing children, even at that age she’d be embarassed by being seen in “conservative” underwear. Better go with something nice.

Because I try to write and sell short stories in my free time, I do a lot of research for background. Not big on dream interpretation, but I’ve read some of the stuff. One of the most common interpretations of the underwear dream is that it represents your fears that you are unprepared for something. So, a freshman might dream that she’s only wearing underwear at school because she’s worried that she can’t handle the school work, or she didn’t study enough for an important test. Someone who dreams that they show up at work in their underwear might fear that they aren’t prepared enough for an important meeting, and so on.
On the other hand, there is the ‘Freudian’ interpretation of dreams that relates almost everything to sex. So the underwear dream can mean the dreamer is ashamed of sexual feelings if the dreamer feels anxious during or after the dream. On the other hand, if the dreamer is ok with being in underwear during the dream, it could mean that the dreamer is ok with his or her sexual feelings. Given the body language of the freshman in the first panel (arms crossed in front of her chest) shame might make more sense. Except — hey, the kid just started high school. Common sense says a dream about showing up for school in your underwear means you are really scared you’re totally not ready for school.

I am:Not to encourage more playlists but the dream isn’t really about trying to find romance- it’s a Freudian dream deal…The houseband would be Bare Naked Ladies but then you need songs like You Don’t have to take you clothes off to have good time. I don’t know if there are enough songs to even create the list but my time must end- the crack is affecting the brain and it’s time to move on…

Years ago, I heard of this “hot” teen aged girl who wore a pair of tight, white pants to school; trouble was, she wore a pair of white with pink polka-dotted bikini briefs along with it….the pink shown through…about the color of her face when she was told!!!

When I was in 6th grade and wearing my first bra, I was sitting at my desk and noticed I could see the color of my stomach and too clearly my white bra because my blouse was so sheer. It was a warm day, so I didn’t bring a sweater or jacket to cover up with. That’s when those dreams started for me. Bern should advise her to never wear see though blouses without a tank top under it.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. If I want to break things up into paragraphs, how do I do that?

Well, actually, an institution should also benefit, not just the intern. I’ve worked for local governments that have unpaid interns who work directly with us (yeah, they should generally be supervised), and we and the public have benefitted from such projects as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) digital mapping and tables the intern produced that we would not have had sufficient staff to produce. At the same time, the intern benefitted from on the job experience that could be used both for college credit, and as part of a resume, or a materials to take with on job interviews. Bernice, in this example, would be able to include a summary of her experience in an essay for a college application. Colleges like that kind of stuff a lot.

“Dream a Little Dream” by Mama Cass.^I did give it thought, and thought "I’d better quit while it was only ten, or we’d have to hire Casey Kasem’s old production team, and buy 3 hours on the radio, cos I’m sure some of us could flesh out 40 of ’em!…

but as a means for those places to get required work done for cheap^Ding! Ding! Ding! That is a good point! Unpaid interns were once for that educational credit and was a win-win for the student and the company… but nowadays, it does seem as though it’s a “light bulbish” brilliant move from HRs to “cut costs” (I suspect so that the higher-ups can retain their “dreamy” incentive packages, etc!)

Hmm. I can kind of work this into my story line, above. Right after Bernice leaves to track down Luann, Miss Phelps pops into the office and finds only Delta and Tiffany. She then says how disappointed she is that Bernice left her office early, without letting her (Miss Phelps) know she had to leave. Tiffany eagerly butts in to complain that she wants another locker and suddenly Miss Phelps is suggesting that Tiff ‘step into her office’, to the amazement of Delta…

MJ: Didn’t Evans say in a blog he would have younger siblings of established characters in the strip?^^Couldn’t say, I never read his Blog, too many spoilers in those things
Mikeyj over 11 years ago
am so confused with the time for Luann- can you explain it for us? ^^Greg has already said that his timelines vary, not only for the strip, but for the characters themselves, for instance, at the beginning, Lou and Brad were 4 years apart, since that time, Brad has aged by at least 7 years, while Lou has aged about 4 1/2; thing is Donny, don’t worry about it, Greg is emphasising the stories, and adjusts the timelines to make them fit.
Mikeyj over 11 years ago
I don’t remember 7th grades all freaked out like that. In my day they were all hyper and real sexual and under the table with the girls and making the sexual comments and going crazy.^^We definitely did not go to the same Jr HS; when I was in JrHS, everyone pretty much acted like the girl in today’s strip
Mikeyj over 11 years ago
Never had an underwear dream myself. That would be a nightmare for anyone else in my dream. What I have had on occasion is flying dreams.^^I had them quite a bit, when I was younger, they always ended with me waking up suddenly, just as I was about to smash into the ground.
Mikeyj over 11 years ago
That’s an interesting explanation. So, if a 7th grader is a freshman, then what is a sophomore, junior, or senior in this kind of system?^^You’d have to ask Greg
