3 hours? At least Dez is cool enough to let them when she is going to be back, so they have a time limit for when they need to be done studying Bernice’s “notes”.

Will Piro or Bernice, either one, make any kind of romantic advance toward the other? Or will they just small-talk for an hour and then go their ways?

So, Bern – you brought Piro there to give him something? He might have something to give to you, too.

A class in three hours? It takes 3 hours to prepare for a class, or to get to it? Either she is an amazingly responsible student, or the campus is enormous, or its at another school. Dez is obviously giving them time to FINALLY get to know each other, if that is meant to be. It’s Bernice repressed sexual and romantic feelings that makes this uncertain, along with of course, Mr. Mujo the mysterious. Somehow I don’t think he is at all dangerous, but he is mysterious. Dez wants Bernice to take the next step and romantically confront her neurosis, Bernice is suddenly confronted with again being alone in the room with Piro, and Piro looks totally non-plussed. So where does this leave things? Anybody have any thoughts?

BOTH of them look a little shocked at her sudden exit, I’d say.

Dez is totally channeling Mrs. Berger here – cluelessly and tactlessly hinting at Bern’s romantic designs. :s

Bernice is looking mortified, most likely both because Piro might figure out what Dez’s behavior implies, and because she doesn’t really know what to do next, beyond giving Piro those notes, that is.

Piro looks mildly confused, but willing to let things go at that…

Incidentally, I think today’s strip would be hilarious with the first panel alone, just replace Bernice’s text bubble with -

‘He followed me home… Can I keep him?’

Dez is wise in the ways of the world and very accommodating. She has left it up to Bee and Piro to fill those three hours (plus the duration of the class, at least 50 minutes, maybe more) as they see fit and can muster.

I expect nothing of significance will happen. Bee is too repressed, Piro too disinterested, for anything but limited superficial banter and note-copying….

Piro seems to fully understand Dez’s sudden departure. Bernice seems shocked.

Why is Dez encouraging this? She knows Piro is a mooch. He probably really is only interested in the notes since he couldn’t be bothered to actually do any work in the class, and after Bernice gives them to him, he’ll ask if he can crash at their room for the next four or five hours and get some sleep. Then he’ll disappear with the notes, leaving Bernice with nothing to study for the test.

Really Dez, this should only take about 10 minutes, 30 tops.

Could be worst, Dez could’ve stuck around to serve panda dung tea.

Give him notes? Letters, is more like it: S.T.D.

Today,Bernice becomes a woman,kinda.Maybe.

I’ll be the ubiquitous scarves are to cover up a tracheotomy scar.

Tomorrow Bern has morning sickness and realizes she has a bun in the oven.

Doesn’t she have a piece of paper floating around with his doctors name on it? I hope that’s not mixed in with her notes.

On Oct. 24, 2014, Piro said he didn’t know Dez, he just knew a friend of hers, but today he walks in and greets her by name. I could not find a later strip in which Piro becomes acquainted with her. Is the plot becoming even more convoluted than we thought?

See @Wiz above. From the near vacuum of information we have gleaned about Piro, it is difficult to see him escalating matters. And Bernice has already done about all she can do short of behaving out of character – overtly sexual. What I would like to see is for Piro to realize her attraction to him and discuss it directly. I still see him as asexual, but of course we have been kept in the dark on that issue.

If you haven’t recently, check out the LuannFan.com site again, which now has a “meet the gang” area that gives a brief synopsis of the ongoing characters. It’s interesting to see the Evans’ take on each compared to conjecture here. Also newsworthy is that Knute and Crystal are supposed to be going to the same “junior college” as Luann.

For those who are impatient with Bernice, she is the one in the strip who most needs to understand herself better. This is part of that process. If it is painful, that is what goes with the territory of real growth at that unformed age.

Piro is gonna bolt, or in some way dissappoint Bern. I’m about 0 for 5 in my predictions

Sex with Bernice would be boring. She is too repressed to enjoy it. Piro could do much better than B.

I’m never sure if anyone gets a chance to read the comments that I put into the ‘reply’ section if they weren’t reading the original comment, so I’m going to risk annoying some folks by repeating myself. I believe that Piro finally met Dez at the drum circle she held, because I think I remember him sitting next to Tiffany and offering her one of his scarves…

Are we having fun or what?

Dez has simply taken a page from TJ’s playbook. He discretely got out of the way when Toni and Brad needed some private time. But, Dez is a bit premature because there is not going to be any game of “strip” school notes for Starhead and Nervous Bernie.

I believe that today is the first day Dez ever indicated that she actually goes to a class. Must be something like Voodoo 201, followed by advanced Tarot card reading, and finally a magic potions in a tea cup seminar.

Piro might be gay. Most straight college-aged guys would have made a move on Bernice by now, except Bernice is about as attractive and interesting as the dishwater in the cafeteria sink…..

For a moment there, I thought Dez had a little morning shadow on her chin.

The Evanses: “What do kids in college do? Think about romance. That’s the only thing they ever do, right?”

“Well, it’s the only thing that matters.”

Why does Bernice have that ‘deer in the headlights’ look in the last panel?

Dez is one cool roommate.
