“It’s got a wonderful defense mechanism. You don’t dare kill it.” -name it.
Just as soon as your enemies believe they can attack you and win, they will do it. You can NEVER allow them to believe they can win. Until you have no enemies, you must never rest.
America didn’t exactly want the role as world leader both in military and economic might, we grew into it. Before WWII we were pretty much isolationist, willing to let the world solve its own individual problems especially with the war in Europe. After Pearl Harbor and the victory of WWII it was if the collective subconscious of the American people said “never again” and continued to build its Armed Forces especially with the growing threat of the USSR. Now we’re the sole remaining superpower and for those of you who don’t like this, ask yourselves, if not us then who? What do think Putin would if he had our military might and the eleven aircraft carrier battle groups to project power anywhere in the world. Or Xi, Kim, the Iranian mullahs or just about any other nation in the world. The one thing we have that no other nation has is our Constitution which puts limitations on what our government can do with its military. Pax Americana? Yes the very nature of our existence has a calming effect on the world and the office of the president also sets the tone for the behavior of the other world leaders.

Think of it as being the big brother and taking care of the little one. There’s a lot of bullys out there, someone needs to care.
