If you ask me, checking receipts on the way out can make some people feel like they’ve stolen something between the checkout and the door…stupid…waste of time and employees “on the clock” time.
Saw an article yesterday about how store shringage (read theft) has skyrocketed with the installation of self check outs. Some Walmart are even going back to cashiers.
In their defense, I’ve had a couple of occasions where the receipt checker found a double scanned item and had it refunded. This was using a live clerk, not from me doing the self-check.
Unless it a membership store you don’t have to show them a receipt. Just went through this yesterday at Wal-Mart. Told them sorry I already paid for this stuff. Its now personal property. Don’t be a sheep and show them the receipt.
I’d no more get incensed over an employee checking my receipt than a police officer pulling me over if I’ve done nothing wrong, like Holiday season alcohol checkstop, or the European “May we see your papers?”
Lately, it seems I would spend almost as much time standing in the self-checkout line as I would in the regular line. If I’m going to do that, a checker will scan my items.

Some Costco entrances have electronic readers to stop membership card sharing.

Unfortunately the one he should be complaining to are nowhere near that store. She’s just a poor underpaid peon.
