I remember how awesome it was when my folks bought a rotor for the antenna … no more going out and grabbing that frozen pole to turn it by hand when we changed stations.
My first streaming service was an antennae attached to a pole strapped to our chimney. 4 sorta-clear channels (CBC plus 3 from US), 4 more that were less so (US PBS, Hamilton, Kitchener, Peterborough, Barrie). When CTV came about in 1960, it blew our minds that there were so many choices.

The first TV I saw had continuous tuning to change “channels”. No clicking to preset frequencies, just turn the knob until the picture came into view.
