Haven’t used a delivery service yet but the online order and pickup system works very well, especially during bad weather or other problems. But a lot depends on the store and their house brands. Not all of those are equal to our preferred choices. After a few substitution mistrials, we elected to check the no substitution box. Still appreciate this good change in an ancient system.
I’ve done online order and pickup a few times, and I’ve also used a delivery service. I don’t eat kale, so the store had no reason to substitute rabbit food. But then, I checked “no substitutions”.
I used it once during the beginning of covid. It was at Eastertime and the ham with the bone in was on sale. I put it on my list, and I was really excited because even if I couldn’t have the holiday with family, I still could have my ham. They finally delivered my groceries to my door and I was so excited. I started to unpack my groceries and there it was - a pound of deli shaved ham. I swore (a lot) after that I would never use Instacart again! They also do a pretty bad job of picking out fresh vegetables too!
A guy had placed a delivery order with Whole Foods. They offered to substitute the nosegay he was purchasing for his wife, with an organic red bell pepper….
(I saw it on the Facebook, so you know it’s thru!)

Probably a tastier substitution.

I learned not to allow substitutions. Why would anyone think that 3 gallon trash bags are an acceptable substitution for 30 gallon trash bags.
