I don’t buy wine unless it is on sale. Our local store frequently runs specials with 15% to 20% off if you buy 12 bottles at a time. That’s enough wine and time to last me to the next sale.
I am talking about my “swilling wine” that I buy at the warehouse-like store and I drink when I sit at my computer at night. I am more selective about my “chilling wine” that I drink with a meal or my wife and I drink while on vacation.
I buy my chilling wine from local vineyards while participating in tastings with friends. It’s not about the tastings or the wine, but all about spending time with friends.
Brother-in-law used wine for meals and occasions. After his recent heart valve replacement, he quit entirely. Being a stickler for research into whatever ails him, he studied the results. Later, when a friend offered him a glass he passed, then told him the different benefits of quitting the stuff. Friend followed his lead and found that 6 weeks later, his physical and medical profiles had improved significantly. Just an idea for the New Year.
We might apply the same number to hours spent reading the Gospel of John or the Letter to the Romans in the New Testament and get a more lasting result.
When we lived on Ft Irwin CA, a long time ago, we went into town to a discount store and found some really cheap wine on closeout. It was the only wine we ever poured out…

Or a better wine.

Use it for brining turkey. I look on the bottom shelves and closeout grocery carts for a bottle with at least 4 discount or closeout tags.

3 to feel good, a couple more to lose that inhibition .. better buy two bottles so you won’t remember what you did and suffer embarrassment.
