I once had a catalytic converter problem with a new car that I bought. It was covered under warranty. My regular mechanic told me not to park or stop over anything flammable. I took it to the Dodge dealership. According to them it was a $350 carburetor problem that was not covered under warranty. Only after they did that repair would they consider the converter.
I took it back to my local mechanic who put in a cheap plastic part and then drove it to the Ford dealership where I traded it in on a new Bronco Truck.
A couple of months later, I get a mailer from the Dodge dealer telling me to come down and look at the new models. I sent the manager a letter congratulating him on how well his service department made money for them. Also included with the letter was the bill of sale for the Bronco.
Now whenever I buy a car, I check out the service department first.

It used to be a robust department, but now it’s just a shadow of itself.

But it’s here to warn you about your airbag…which they’ll fix for free in 7 years when they get the parts.

Current support – what to fix, when to fix it, how to pay for it, what to fix next.

I don’t get this. Maybe it’s because my EV has no problems.
