Several years ago, I was at a club in NYC with my brother. Paid the bill with a credit card, adding a 20% tip. When I got home and looked at the receipt, I saw that the 20% tip was added on top of an automatic 18% tip that was added to all checks at that establishment. Must have made the waitress very happy.

John Royston Coleman as a Ph.D., professor at M.I.T., Carnegie Mellon. He became president of Haverford College. During a sabbatical at Haverford, he worked as a ditch digger and as a garbage collector.
