Unisex with a lock, simple answer. Cons just don’t get it. BTW, years ago, when we implemented these single use, it was the same “conservatives” who came unglued because I guess they hadn’t mastered how to use a lock? Rape by a transgender is probably the most phobic of their fears, and hardly a “risk”.
No, you don’t understand the risk of rape. The only way our women can be safe is by making burkas in public mandatory. No talking or touching men who are not family (‘cause family never rapes family) and no public bathrooms at all (we can’t ignore the real danger of women raping other women – or worse yet, consensual woman on woman sex). I believe you really need to think this through and quit trying to put women and children at risk!
No problem. Make the restrooms for employees only and have a port-O-john in the spot next to the handicapped parking for customers to use. Put moist towelettes and hand sanitizer out for customers to use and call it done.
Because a few people are uncomfortable with using a facility that just doesn’t feel right to them, a majority of people are made to feel uncomfortable in their own facility? Quit kneeling at the altar of Political Correctness, people.
This is the sad kind of backwards thinking that is making this such a silly issue. My school has unisex bathrooms. There’s men’s stalls, women’s stalls, they both lock. Guess how many rapes have occurred in those restrooms? None. Time to educate yourself.
@ thebirdThat’s a daft argument: the “majority of people” you (almost certainly falsely) claim “are made to feel uncomfortable” won’t know, unless the person in question (for example) runs around the women’s facility waving their willy—and there are already laws against that.
I have been in places that have both the female and the male symbol outside a single bathroom. Don’t have to worry about who you identify with. – And yes, they have a lock on the door!
My, my, my. So many comments, and so little facts known. Most opinions are backed by feelings alone or media snippets.BTW: more of the selective hypocrisy by the businesses threatening and punishing NC.Paypal, home based in Singapore, cancels a deal to place a complex in NC. Try being a homosexual in Singapore.Apple, chastising NC, yet does mega business in Saudi Arabia . Try being a homosexual in that country.Perhaps we should be like all those other “more civilized” countries and close all public restrooms and just have people void in the streets.I think clothing should be optional, after all, it is only covering a natural covering. Nope won’t happen because then some group will be complaining and filing suit against people that have more mountains while others only have molehills.Think it won’t happen? In this society and time?
Only one thing to do. MANDATORY nudity at all times for all, open pits for any required body waste elimination, ogling is encouraged. There. now EVERYONE can be offended.
Years ago in a Paris restaurant…unisex bathroom (WC) was a long “galley”, the “business” side was a bunch of stalls with locks, the other side sinks. Works for me…
Transgenders EXEPERIENCE sexual assault at a rate of up to 66 percent of all transgenders.
There’s a web page that talks about a rape survivor who mentions 3 people to try to support her position: Jason Pomares ( a voyuer who used a camera in a woman’s bathroom) , Norwood Smith Burnes (Indecent exposure – a flasher), and Taylor Buehler (another voyeur). None of those people are what I would call violent offenders, and certainly not rapists. Creepy, disgusting, deviants yes, but not real threats to the health and safety of anyone.
I’ve seen citations that transgenders are supposedly more prone to violent crime after sexual reassignment surgery “Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden”, by Cecilia Dhejne, Paul Lichtenstein, Marcus Boman, Anna L. V. Johansson, Niklas Långström, Mikael Landén. But it was a single study, with a small cohort, was not double blinded, the only ones who had increased violent criminal activity were the women who reassigned to be men, and criminality was not the primary concern of the study, but merely an additional observation – questionably statistical validity.

Directions are great, if some one bothers to read. Then again, if a facility is useful and convenient then it is strange to worry about who uses it. Much, too much, to do about a few moments of a visit.
If you don’t understand the risk of rape that’s involved here, you’re too stupid to be commenting even on a comic website.-———————Chris, you’ve been sharing restrooms with TG people as long as you’ve lived. There is no history of anyone being raped. Ever.A man transitioning into a woman takes hormones that eventually makes their penis incapable of an erection.Turn off your radio, and take the tin foil off your head.
The whole issue is just this election year’s phantom menace created by the GOP.- They go into panic mode about something that threatens no one, simply to make the Democrats finally say, “Oh come on, it’s no threat.” Then the GOP beats their chest self-righteously, and says, “See? The Democrats don’t want to protect you! Vote for us!”Two years ago, it was ebola. The GOP insisted it was a coming plague, but the president said, “Come on, it’s curable.” And some in the GOP actually claimed he was trying to release it into the US, because the president “hates America.”Maybe in 2018, the GOP will warn us of zombies.
I’m not surprised that you’re getting all these comments; you’ve mocked Political Correctness! Don’t you understand that Political Correctness trumps (no pun intended) every other consideration?
Our Governor, Pat McCrory, said the reason he supported this law was to protect little girls from men in the women’s room. So he’d rather that a man, who think’s he’s a woman, goes to the little boys room. Little boys don’t need protection.
Notably the explanation makes no mention of a woman entering a men’s bathroom. Sexist? – well Pat’s a Republican, so yeah, it’s part of the pander-to-the-conservatives mentality. Women-folk know their proper place here in North Carolina.
The bill assumes that if you are gay or lesbian or transgendered (or even a man wearing a dress – heck they’re all the same thing – right?) are automatically sexual predators and pedophiles. No need for a trail there – guilty until proven innocent.
Down here in soon-to-be Hispanic-free, Muslim-free, (Juden-frie?), safe for good Christian men, North Carolina; all them people are the same and they all think and act the same way. It makes sense to lump them all into one bag; it keeps you from having to think.
It’s not about the risk. It is about having an additional charge in case you can’t make the rape stick. Personally, I think they should tack on a Hate Crime rider while they are at it, and make thinking bad things a crime. You can always make Thinking Bad Things stick.
I’ve been in very old buildings in DC which used to have 3 individual restrooms. Most are now set up so anyone can use any of the bathrooms, just one occupant at a time (or a parent with a child)
