OK, I’ll be the first to go political. There is no humor in the fact that bureaucrats who live to save us from ourselves have intruded on our lives at every turn, no matter how insignificant. Can a summer pass without a news report on some little kid’s lemonade stand being shut down? They’d probably also require Ruthie to collect sales tax. Thomas Jefferson would be disgusted at what we’ve sunk to.
And today’s cartoon has Ruthie explaining to Buggy that she is not stomping his heart into the carpet, because she’d be blamed for the stain that would leave. Funny, but not as funny as Ruthie not understanding Miss Avis’s comment about needing a license in order to successfully sell candy…
To everyone who thinks I shouldn’t bring up a political issue, even when directly implied by the comic: 1) Keep your head in the sand where you’ll be happiest. 2) If I must keep my opinions to myself, then why don’t you? 3) Tough noogies.
Good reply. I too thought Avis was going a little overboard. I don’t see billions of schools (billions, really?), having kids sell candy, nor do I see lemonade stands, being shut down or otherwise. Anyway, everyone can feel free to disagree with me, just as I can feel free to express the sentiment of tough noogies.

Right – let’s ignore anything good he might have done.
As for Miss Avis, if Ruthie is selling the candy for the school, she’s wrong.

I’m 71 and get a chuckle by telling the little kids, “No thanks, candy gives me zits.” That’s funnier than telling them I’m diabetic. :-)
