I thought zeros were “oughts.” My friend has rifles and he calls one of them his thirty-ought-six. There was also a brain teaser in a game I had which I didn’t get the first time. The question was what saying is represented by 100204180. The answer is “I ought not to owe, for I ate nothing.”
They’re called doughnuts because originally, they had nuts (walnut I think) in the middle of the dough. However, some say it was “dough knots” because of the shape. I believe it’s the former but I don’t know for certain; I’m old but not that old.
