My husband & I used to have a car that had only AM. There was a station that played only classical. One time they announced a free CD giveaway. We ordered it, expecting just a CD in a paper envelope. What we got was a 2-disc set in a lovely commemorative book-type hard-cover…with booklet!
Schroeder probably waited all day for this……I called in a request 35 years ago, we got tired of waiting, went out, did errands got back…and heard them play our Request, about six hours later.
Many years ago, I lived in Los Angeles; at the time, I requested that my local classical radio station play ‘The Red Shoes’ in honor of Sir Robert Helpmann’s birthday. I was concerned they’d feel it was too long (17 minutes) & might wind up playing an excerpt. They were kind enough to play it all & even gave it a most insightful introduction!

I’ve emailed my favorite classical music radio station (days in advance) a few times some years ago for requests and heard them played.

It could be worse, Schroeder. They have a recording of Fur Elise on accordion.

Cue the scene from Groundhog Day where the main character smashes the radio…

At least an accordion has a keyboard. Unless It’s a button box.

One of the reasons I prefer not to listen to radio anymore than I have to these days.

Great shot of Schroder. I love the way CS drew these old characters. I think they were so much more interesting than the “newer” CB and company.
