Other certain answers:“Well, if all your freinds jumped aff a bridge, would you want to do it too?Your Dad: Well, I can find something for you to do!

How many of you out there can come up with parental answers that are so common that you can easily figure out what the question is?

I discovered the answer to this question empirically, about the same time Linus did. Then there are the “questions” parents ask that are not questions and that a child should never answer. For example:“Young man, do you know what time it is?”“Do you think I’m stupid?”“Do you want a smack?”“Are you looking for trouble?”None of these are questions.

Yup, I got the exact same answer from my parents. The Presbyterian church recognizes the 2nd Sunday in June as Children’s Day, but Universal Children’s Day is Nov. 20.

@kuren444 Technically you’re right…but if CS had put the trombone slide response from Grandma in the word balloon, the gag would have been lost in translation.

It just dawned on me: Give Linus the proper material, and he could be a good con artist. Good thing he generally uses his sales pitches for good.

When I was growing up and I got some veggie I hated I always got the answer “You realize there are starving kids in Africa”?

I usually came back with this:

Well then why dont you shpi all the spinach atrichokes and all the other vegetables (it was either eggplant atrichokes spinach) and ship all that to the starving kids in africa instead of making me eat it?

Then the expected answer is You want to go to bed without dinner? after I almost ate it all.

Oh, one more question that is not a question:“Why were you ever born?”I made the mistake of answering that one. “Well if you and Dad hadn’t´—” that was as far as I got.

Adult females, I don’t recall any males, used to be pictured from the waist down, and they would have a speech balloon. The last adult I recall didn’t have a speaking role; Linus & Lucy’s mother driving Rerun (in a child seat) on her bike. She wasn’t pictured but someone was on the front of the bike. I’m relying on memory here, and I’m getting on in years, so corrections are welcome.

I do believe this is the only time we ever heard an adult speak in this strip.

…and if your parents did say those things you’d be sitting in jail right now with no Internet access to read Peanuts on GoComics.

This was always one of my favorite Peanuts strips. Linus knows adults like the back of his hand. Lucy is beleiving him even.

First:Notice how specific Linus was about his predictions? He said he could predict answers to specific questions. Nothing vague and outlandish with him. And,of course, totally accurate.Second:His Grandma’s there and he still has his blanket? What’s up with that?

I remember one other strip where Charlie Brown’s mother answers a question of his from offscreen (“Mom, does ‘Goggles’ have two Gs or 3?” “Three, dear”).

It’s certainly true that strips with an adult talking can probably be counted on one hand.
