This strip was on Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tales last night.

What did it say though? It’s not enough for the word to just be in there.

I demand proof that she wouldn’t just scribble “Brothers must give sisters gifts.” into a Bible.

Lucys’ “pick and choose” theology…sounds like what’s being taught in some places today!

So you have proved someone had a female sibling in the Bible.

That proves nothing at all. You must read the full story to fully understand why that word is in the Bible.

It also says “dragon”, but tha doesn’t mean Linus has to give me a present.

Give her the gift of a lesson learned

Of course, it doesn’t occur to Lucy to actually, you know, apologize to Linus.

I once was involved in a discussion with a hard core evangelical (big mistake, right there). As “proof” of her anti-abortion stance, she quoted a biblical passage that contained the word “life”. No contextual connection to what we were discussing, but because that one word was in there, she claimed it as proof positive that God hates abortion.

There was no productive communication between us after that.

It’s moments like this that I wish I could step into comic strips and absolutely berate Lucy on her lack of knowledge about the Bible, Christmas, and the general Christian faith.

FUN FACT. The word ‘smidgen’ is nowhere to be found in the Bible.

Hey, I’m “wife”! I’m sure that word is in the Bible too, and I don’t get a Christmas present! I like flowers, food and fun. (as in scratch-off lottery tickets)

Yup, saw this coming when this story arc began. Lucy has no clue and thinks she does.

That’s the danger of picking and choosing bits of the Bible to fit one’s own agenda. Believers AND non-believers are guilty of this.

Lucy did not say WHAT present Linus had to get her.

Sally has a similar view. I recall a strip which went something along the lines of her telling Charlie that their family were mentioned in The Bible, in a quote about “All the Brown cows.”

I love the creative theology in this strip!!!!

Stick to your guns, Linus. Lucy doesn’t deserve a present.

A quick search on BibleGateway.com says that there are 276 uses of the word “sister,” but that’s no good without some context.
