In my family, the rule was “clean your plate.”

Beagles never leave even the smell of their food in the dish!

My dogs sometimes eat all their food at once but sometimes choose to graze over time.

Clean your plate young man!

I vaguely remember my parents saying something about starving children in China. And I needed to clean my plate or send the food to China. Or something along those lines.

I know my grandmother wouldn’t have said anything like that!

Snoopy not finishing food is very weird.

What does that even mean? Waste food for “Mr. Manners”?

If I didn’t clean my plate after seconds or even thirds, my grandmother would say, “You didn’t like it!”

Not the average kid (dog). Taught to clean your plate (bowl). And try not to get your ears in your food.

I had a childhood friend who’s German mom told him that.

As a kid in the early 70s I was told to clean my plate since children in Africa were going hungry and they would be upset seeing me leave my plate dirty!

Which kind of makes a mystery why Schulz thought today’s comic joke was supposed to be funny?

I’m not sure if it’s true but I’ve been told never to “clean your plate” when dining Chinese cuisine. It’s telling the restauranteur that the plate is not filling.

Obviously he didn’t get the lecture about the starving dogs in Africa

I don’t know how my Mother did it, worked in the store and still managed to have a balanced home cooked meal for supper ….. of course supper was around 7:30 – 8 pm weekdays ….. except Fridays, store was open until 9pm or later if there were still customers ….. so supper was 10pm or later …………. :)

All the comments today and no one mentioned who is Mr. Manners. I remember Mrs. Manners but not a Mr.

We don’t think Mr. Manners would prefer Snoopy cuisine…

If we did not clean our plates we were told to think about the poor starving children in China who would love to have that food…

Mom never used the “starving children” line, but she did tell us that it’s a sin to waste food. To this day we still quote her on that one. When my wife and I eat leftovers from something I’ve cooked, or when we bring home leftovers from restaurant meals, I always think of Mom.
