Recalling the first time he did that trick, freaking Linus out. Then remarking, I’ve been able to do that for years. And the time he got stuck and couldn’t get back. Lucy whacked him back. Correct my memories as needed!

“‘Well! I’ve often seen a dog without a grin,’ thought Woodstock,’ but a grin without a dog! It’s the most curious thing i ever saw in my life!’”

Of course, if Woodstock had said that aloud, it would have sounded pretty much like, “’ ’ ’ ’ ’ ’ ’ ’ ’ ‘’’.”

He first pulled that trick in one of the 60’s strips. I remember when Lucy told him, “If you pull that Cheshire Beagle trick on me, I’ll pound you!” He did so after she left, and thought, “Rats!” with a sad look instead of a grin.

Cool! I haven’t seen the Cheshire Beagle bit in decades! An old friend mentioned when she found out she was having a girl, she couldn’t stop grinning, so the child was named Cheshire.

For the title panel: What does Humpty Dumpty who sat on a wall have to do with Alice in Wonderland?

One of the things I advise people about is video conferencing. I’ve seen all the mistakes people make:

One man was on a laptop and the screen was tilted up with the ceiling in the background. So was the overhead fan that grew out of his head like a giant propeller beanie.

Some people are backlit, giving that witness protection program look. Others go in the opposite direction shining harsh lights on their faces giving them a zombie-like complexion and casting goulish shadows on the wall behind them.

Bet on it, the phone will ring when you are in a conference. I leave my phone in another room. Children and animals will photobomb you.

The latter aren’t too bad in an informal conference. I’ve had conferences with my boss with her children sitting on her lap. It adds some humanity to the event.

Teams and Zoom will let you blur the background or project an image … if the webcam driver and software are up to the task. I was in an informal conference with a friend whose cat was on her shoulder. As her cat moved around it would disappear and reappear. From then on, I called her cat, Cheshire.

If you are in a serious conference such as a job interview, I recommend NOT using a projected background image if your system can’t handle it. Losing body parts as you are talking is distracting.

Hint to job seekers: go on LinkedIn, find out what school the hiring manager went to, buy a banner for that school and put it on the wall behind you. :)
