Continuing from yesterday, maybe Nickelodeon dropping the P&HU cartoon was a blessing in disguise, even if it was for a stupid reason.
I remember when it was first announced a couple years ago, it honestly felt like a Monkey’s Paw scenario. Sure, I had wanted to see this comic in animated format for years, but I also knew that Nickelodeon has a long history of screwing over their shows and creators.
There is so much that could’ve gone wrong if they had actually gone through in making the show. They could’ve dumbed it down for preschoolers, they could’ve added a bunch of potty humor, they could’ve animated it in terrible CGI, etc. I knew Nick would screw the show over, I just didn’t know it would happen before the show was even made.
Hopefully Dana will eventually find a company that actually succeeds in making this great comic into a show, though it won’t be easy given how animation has been screwed over so much this year by every big studio. I guess Bill Watterson had the right idea when he refused to adapt Calvin and Hobbes into animation.
Just then, the Fat Controller arrived. “Negatina! Explain this behavior!” he demanded. “I will not!” she retorted. She ran away has fast as she could, neighing. Sir Topham Hatt needed to catch up to Negatina, so he tried thinking quickly. It happened that Edward was nearby, just about to finish shunting some trucks. Sir Topham Hatt ran over to Edward, and told everything to his crew.
“We need to head over to Gordon’s Hill,” he explained to Edward and his crew. “Negatina is running away, and she’s in the path of Gordon’s Express. We’ll go to the nearest signal box. Sidney, you’ll go inside and tell the signalman to halt all traffic. I’ll be your fireman, Edward.” Without another word, the three were off.
Negatina was enjoying herself, thinking herself to be such a clever engine. Just before she could reach Gordon’s Hill, she was diverted onto an abandoned siding. She crashed into a pile of dirt, and dust had gotten all over her. She coughed a bit, and opened her eyes to see Gordon flying by with his Express. She breathed a sigh of relief, but she was soon interrupted when Edward arrived with the Breakdown Train.
“I tried to warn you about disobeying orders,” Edward said, sternly. “You did not,” retorted Negatina, indignantly. “Yes he did!” boomed the Fat Controller. “And ao did I! You’ve disobeyed every order I’ve given you. I’m most disappointed. I’ve given you many chances to prove your worth, but it seems you do not care enough to be a useful engine on my railway.”
“Furthermore,” he added, “I will be sending you to the works to be mended. However, you will not be returning to my railway.” “No, I will not!” she said, childishly. “Time will tell. I have treated you well during your trial here on Sodor. The other railways will not be so kind. I hope it won’t be too late for you to learn that my railway, nor any railway, is a big place to party and play. I’ve said all that I can say to you. Good evening.” Without another word, Sir Topham Hatt boarded Edward’s cab.
Why am I still finding Negatina so attractive? Ah, she’s so far out of the box. Kindred spirit. I’ve seen so many people who are doing something extreme, thinking they’re rebellious or whatever, but they’re just conforming to some new fad or way of thinking. When you find someone who is truly unique or original, it might not be noticeable at first, but they just aren’t being understood. Some people won’t notice at all, because they substitute their usual expectations for whatever that person says or does.

I’m getting ready to neigh loudly and run away – this story line is stupid. More people interaction, less (waaaaaaaaay less) unicorn fantasy.

in japanese, “ne” means “wouldn’t you agree?” so… it’s like, double entendre… does this comic get translated to japanese? somebody should do that.
