Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for August 30, 2023

They’re gonna need whips, crosses and holy water for the job.

So, I just came up with a crazy theory as to why this story is so long and convoluted.

I remember when the show was at production at Nickelodeon, Dana said it was going to be a movie first and then a series, though she didn’t know much about it other than that, or even if it was going to be 2D or 3D-animated.

Now, take this theory with a grain of salt, especially since Dana had so little involvement with it…but what if after Nick cancelled the project, Dana decided to get ahold of the pilot movie screenplay and adapt it into a strip? (I imagine the movie would start out with Phoebe meeting Marigold before they get the letter that sends them on a long and crazy journey.)

Anyone else feel a RAR coming up?

Ugh, self-insert fanfiction. I’m not proud of having gone through that phase.

Looks as though the monster that Phoebe and Dakota will be facing could be a monster from Phoebe’s own imagination.

I wonder who the enemy is?!

This seems to have killed the “It’s Marigold!” theories. Maybe the candy dragon?

Wait, is their enemy the Sphinx for some strips ago?

Do goblins have fangs and claws? Cuz if so, I’m thinking Prunella.

Sounds accurate all right.

I have a funny feeling that fangs and claws and an annoying sense of humor is a reference to a certain sphinx kitty that we’ve seen in previous panels.

Is their enemy Todd?

Just want to say that this longest story arc in the history of this toon is also the best. (As for an animated version: Currently it would be impossible to even get a tiny bit off the ground. The ongoing strikes by both writers and actors probably can’t be solve by anything less magical than a unicorn……..)
