Maybe these couples are not married, so they can’t celebrate their wedding anniversary, so they need to think of something else, like the day they met.
And yes, when you have been together with someone so long that remembering each others names is good, the date of the first date is not important anymore. Celebrate all those years together, not one day long in past!
Strange coincidence….today is the anniversary of our first date 24 years ago. Engaged at Christmas and married in April. Third time was a charm for me….finally got it right!
Carol and I met on All Saints Day 58 years ago. Being a pastor/hospital chaplain, the theological significance of our meeting date is important to me…and Carol IS a saint for putting up with me all these years!
i am dreading the day when i have to think before calling my wife by name. so i started using ‘honey’ and ‘sweetheart’ just to give me a slight edge. i am finding more and more that things that once were easily remembered are now taking a little more effort to recall.

You can overdo it on those special anniversaries and drive guys batty. It’s enough if he remembers your anniversary and birthday. And Valentine’s day.

Yes, Earl is right and he probably understands that if you have to celebrate every triviality of your life, your life must be pretty empty in general.
