I understand where Nelson is coming from. When i was at that age i didn’t much care for hugs and kisses from relatives.

To rephrase Homer to Bart, “{chuckle} Nelson doesn’t have a grandchild.”

Someday, Grandma will be gone and the opportunity to show love will also be gone. Kids should try to remember that…

I was not required to kiss grandparents and aunts, but I WAS required to allow them to kiss me. (Uncles and grandpa were not an issue, in those days). One of the aunts was worst: She used some kind of face powder that smelled really… really… bad to me. Kind of like chemical / rotten / flowers. Bleaugh.

My kids had a teacher in grade school who had the nickname “Kissy K”(I do not know if I should give her last name) and was dearly loved by all, and she has since passed, as well.

Grandchildren are fine with kisses but only up to a certain age.

As a kid, I loved giving (and getting) hugs, but I did not like kisses. I’m not going to say most boys didn’t like kisses (girlfriends exempted of course), but if they did they sure didn’t make it known!

Seems to me spending time with grandchildren (I have 1) is great medicine.

Neither of my grandmothers were kissers. They didn’t have to be when one was a world class homemade chocolate chip cookie provider and the other offered a safe place when things got too bad at home…

I wasn’t crazy about my grandmother’s (or any relative’s) kisses at that age, but making them worse was she dipped snuff – a LOT of snuff… yeesch!

My grandkids are great huggers, but now of course that’s not allowed. I worry that by the time this is all over, they’ll have gotten so used to distancing that they’ll have outgrown it.

… At which point Opal grabbed Nelson up in a great big hug and took her kiss, because life is too short to not love someone.

After my Dad passed, we were cleaning out his dresser and found a few offbeat birthday cards I had given him which told him I really appreciated him and how much he influenced me growing up. I have kept those cards.
