    I used to have a lot of fine crunches. And a great relief they were. Now, alas, arthritis has made many of my joints too sore to move in those ways.

    If you lift your legs, is it still called a crunch? Lifting chest and lifting legs both strength abs, but I think of them as separate exercises.

    I prefer planks. Easier on the neck and back, and accomplish more than crunches.
