When we bought our house, it had shag carpet (no kidding). There were traces of that 50s “Avocado” aka “puke green” that had been replaced by “Harvest Gold”. Both in a “short shag” format (about 3/4 inch). We put in new flooring and area rugs. So when the path from my comfy seat to the kitchen starts looking gnarly… we can turn the rug around, doubling its life.
Not sure the age of the house, but considering the age of the two of them, under the carpet probably is hard wood flooring. It is prettier, and so much easier to clean. A quick dry mop and your done. And, it lasts forever. No being stuck qith one color or type of rug as your tastes change.
We haven’t had to brave the rugged terrain from the sofa to the TV in decades, so the only chance for wear and tear is from the sofa to the fridge. Maybe a nice R2D2 style robot on wheels could solve that.
Get one of those nice clear vinyl runners so you can look down through those tiny teeth to the glory that was once your fresh cut pile! Or maybe a snazzy new carpet runner (that lies on top of the carpet) from the folks at HipBreaker Mills!
My wife has wanted to get rid of our carpeted floors, for hard wood. I told her that when I’m “gone”, she could make it an ice rink for all I care. I like the carpet.

And the not-seen part of the path that forms a triangle connecting the fridge and the bathroom.

I’m pushing 82, and I have absolutely NO intention of replacing my carpet with one that will outlive me!

Funny how the timing works out.. as you develop old age dementia and forget things.. you can follow well established paths.

When your carpet is old enough to vote, it’s time to replace it!
